I’m not really a fan of gyms. But then again, before Coastal Bodies I hadn’t been to one where every trainer, and most of my fellow participants, knew me by name.
I was a little hesitant to begin the 8-Week Challenge – worried if I’d be able to make it through training, nervous about having someone monitor what I ate, unsure whether it would be worth the money. But I’d let the weight creep in over the years and it didn’t seem to be going anywhere, so I had nothing to lose (except kilos!). Luckily it wasn’t as hard as anticipated and I found it easy to stick to the deficit days and training schedule. With such small classes, the training is, dare I say it, enjoyable. I even got into the rhythm of logging all my meals on My Fitness Pal, to the point where my partner was concerned I was having an affair with it.
The 8-Week Challenge, and Coastal Bodies in general, is a genuinely supportive experience. It’s amazing how quickly you can become fitter, stronger, and lose the previously unshakable kilos. In 8 weeks I lost a total of 9kg and 13cm off my waist, and now I have new muscles to put into my old jeans!
I truly feel so much better than when I began and I didn’t have to think twice before signing up to become a Coastal Bodies member.
When I started my 12 week challenge I have given up on my confidence and fitness. Even though I have always been a very fit person who took pride in what I ate and in my love for exercising, in the past three years the busy life of a full time teacher and full time mother took over my life. I allowed it to snowball into an unhealthy lifestyle which resulted in a lack of confidence. It was like the longer I didn’t exercise the harder it became.
On one of those particularly down days I found myself venting to my dear friend Vicki. Instead of waiting for her usual reply… “yeah I know… we should do something”… she declared “I joined Coastal Bodies 8 Week challenge today, do it with me!”
And there I was… being assessed by Callum. All the time he was measuring me I kept wanting to run away! Of course Callum made me feel comfortable, and I found myself leaving Coastal that day armed with a food plan and a spring in my step. The rest is history!
Thank you to Lisa and her incredible dedicated team who trained and motivated me, and went beyond just being a gym. By marrying clear and simple guidelines about food with a personal fitness plan… here I am, 15 kilos lighter, more confident and just simply happier! Thank you Coastal Bodies — you gave me my life back!
I had tried all the diets under the sun, you name it i’d done it, shake, juice, cabbage, Atkins, cereal to mention a few. When returning home from work I noted a sign outside the Coastal Bodies studio mentioning an 8 week weight loss challenge. I checked out the website and within minutes had signed up for the face to face “Coogee 8 Week Challenge”.
On arrival I was greeted by friendly staff members and introduced to all the participating members. The trainers were professional and in control at all times giving me the confidence that I was in a safe environment.
The 24/7 access to a Personal Trainer via the Coogee challenge forum I personally found invaluable. This gave all the challengers the opportunity to chat to each other with dietary questions, exercise tips, recipes and any problems we were facing with the challenge as well as getting the professional advice from the trainers.
The fantastic results I achieved were astonishing. In 8 weeks I lost over 18kg. I feel physically fitter and healthier not to mention the confidence I have gained. The effects have been noticed by my colleagues and friends who cannot believe the transformation in just 8 weeks.
This has changed my life forever. I now love to exercise and keep fit, undertaking organised events such as 8, 10 and 14 km runs. This would have never been possible before this challenge.
A big thank you to all the guys at Coast Bodies (Trainers and fellow challengers). Not only did you give me the health and fitness education to help myself but provided me with a supportive, friendly and enjoyable environment to improve my life
Dan and his Coastal Bodies team have helped me completely transform not only my body shape but also my attitude to exercise, eating and a healthy lifestyle.
A great training environment along with the knowledge and professionalism of the trainers ensure I get the best results and constant motivation.
The energy I have now keeps me feeling younger, fitter and healthier than ever
I always wanted to lose weight but was not really finding the right way to go about it and when I realized that it is more than a diet it really is a change in habits and lifestyle only then was I able to start setting up a good support network for myself as I wanted to be in an environment where I didn’t feel I was being judged. I found that with Coastal bodies. I needed to lose a lot of weight and change my bad eating habits and I knew it wasn’t just exercising that was going to help and that’s what I find to be so great with my trainer Emma, we discuss all topics from food to how the metabolism works, all while I am getting a great workout. She is always right there beside me helping and doing the exercise with me and the constant support and encouragement I get from Emma and Dan is above and beyond any other gym I have been to. Coastal Bodies is about living a healthy life (not just being fit) and that’s what I want too. When I started with Coastal Bodies I found it hard to do Cardio exercise – and now I have just done my first City 2 Surf and look forward to competing in the next Fun run coming up. I feel happy about living a healthy lifestyle but don’t get me wrong I still have challenges where I feel like breaking out and eating crap and it is a struggle, but the rewards I get from living well are too good to ruin. When I get to my goal weight I know I will be able to have those things in moderation, but for now I enjoy the ride and the pride it gives me to be fit and healthy and 18 kgs lighter
I am a 25 year old professional who has been training with Coastal Bodies for 12 months. Before I started training I led a relatively inactive lifestyle, thought getting fit was all too hard and was generally unhealthy. I started training with Coastal Bodies because training one-on-one meant I could automatically conquer my two biggest hurdles to getting fit; commitment and embarrassment. Having a trainer waiting for you means you can’t skip a session and they develop programs which are achievable so you don’t look like a fool doing things which are so difficult that you just give up. I have now lost 44kgs which itself feels incredible, I am fit, I really enjoy training and I can now have a go at things, like fun runs and ocean swims, which once seemed impossible. I can’t begin to explain how it feels to be completely comfortable at the beach and to know you are genuinely ‘healthy’. I encourage everyone to see what Coastal Bodies can do for them, and to get all the information out of them that they can. They are a great bunch who genuinely cares about your health and fitness – a noticeable difference. If you have gone so far as to look up this website you clearly want to make a change in your life, and that change will only happen if you make an appointment for your first consultation. And at the end of the day, this first consultation is free, so you have nothing to lose
I was hesitant to start a personal training program because I was always one of those people who falsely believed that personal trainers were only for the rich and somewhat a waste of time – boy was I wrong! My first session was truly horrible – in the best way possible. You worked my body so hard that I’m sure it went into overload. The exercises you had me perform awoke so many muscles and nerves in my body that have been asleep for years. I hadn’t sweated or breathed so heavily in years. After walking away from that session completely out of breath, it dawned on me how truly unfit I was. As a mother of two young very active boys, this was my worst fear confirmed. The second session we had was a different style of exercising.
You concentrated on my body parts that I so badly wanted. The second session we had was a different style of exercising. You concentrated on my body parts that I so badly wanted to improve ie: arms, stomach. Whist it wasn’t as intense as the first day, it still hurt like hell. But you never gave up on me, I sulked whist it wasn’t as intense as the first day, it still hurt like hell. But you never gave up on me, I sulked and whined for the entire hour, yet you did not give in. You pushed and pushed until finally I gave in and just completed the sets. When I first came to you, I thought that weight loss was my biggest ‘want’. After only a few sessions with you, I’ve realized that you offer so much more than making it about body and weight loss. You have given me the mental strength to feel confident and look forward to a goal. You have made me understand better the foods that I was/am putting in my mouth. My body shape and size no longer consume my every thought. After two kids, I was obsessed with loosing the ‘baby fat’ but I never had the motivation. Even the purchase of a treadmill, which site in my lounge room as a clothes hanger, did nothing to boost my motivation. There are no words to describe what mental satisfaction I have gained from this. I feel I have the strength to conquer anything now. Most importantly, I truly believe I am happier and more alive as a mother and a wife. I am in awe at how patient I have been with the children and how more calmer I am with my husband. All in all, you have completely changed my life for the better. I no longer care about the size of my pants, except that I care how happy I am when I wake up. Some may call it a mid life crisis, others may call it a waste of money – I call it priceless! I would NEVER have been able to achieve what you have helped me to achieve in such a short time – both physically and mentally. The only downside is that my favourite pants don’t fit me anymore. They hang loose around my waist and now need a belt to hold them up. As upset as I am to see them go, I’d be even happier when I go buy the next size down.
When I made the transition from uni to full-time work in an office job, I gained 9kg that I just couldn’t lose. I had no time to exercise and my weight was getting out of control. Every week I noticed my clothes getting tighter and tighter and I had to buy a new suit every six months, progressively going up a size each time. The thought of getting a personal trainer never appealed to me because I thought they were reserved for gym junkies and I didn’t even like exercising at the gym! My previous fitness commitment took the form of a 12 month gym membership which I used about 4 times in total. If someone had told me this time last year that I would (or could) lose 26kg with the help of a personal trainer, I wouldn’t have believed them because I was sure that (a) my body type was not conducive to weight loss, and (b) I wouldn’t have the motivation.
The first time I had ever considered personal training was when I met up with a friend who I noticed had lost about a quarter of his weight. I was both excited for him and disappointed to find out that his secret was personal training (with Dan), which I was sure I would hate and could not afford. But inspired by the result, I decided to try out session. To my surprise, personal training was nothing like I expected; in a good way. For a start, Dan was actually friendly and not the boot camp drill sergeant that I was afraid he would be. There was plenty of variety in the exercises that he had me do and I surprised myself with how much exercise I could do with a little variety and encouragement. Since then, I have trained with Dan once a week at lunch time and have gone from weighing 93kg to 67kg in just one year. Personal training has also given me the discipline to eat well because I don’t want to undo all that good work; so the effect is two-fold. It’s simply the best investment I have made in my health and looking back, I cannot believe how much money I wasted on “diet” supplements and useless infomercial fitness equipment. All I can say is, I couldn’t have done any of the above without Coastal Bodies.
I have been a client of Coastal Bodies for the last three years. In that time I have achieved substantial weight loss (and kept it off) and a massive increase in my overall fitness. I am now fitter than I was in my twenties (I am 67 years old). It is only the personal attention of the Coastal Bodies trainers that has allowed me to achieve these significant health gains. There have been a number of surprises on the journey. The first, is that as your fitness improves — the whole exercise regime gets easier! When I first started I had to drag myself to one session a week. As my fitness and recovery time improved I started to look forward to coming to the session, so I increased the number of sessions. Your trainer still gets you to work hard — but your rapid recovery means that you quickly regain your breath, ready to proceed to the next set of exercises! The second surprise, was the professionalism of the Coastal Bodies Trainers. Brian Wardle, my first trainer, was a qualified physiotherapist. I had long been troubled by Plantar Fasciitis in my right foot. Brian noted that there were groups of muscles in my hips that were not being activated. He devised exercises that strengthened these muscles and now my foot problems are gone! I am now back skiing and running — which I love but have previously not been able to do for decades! I have noted that all the Coastal Bodies Trainers, both past and present, were highly qualified professionals. Every one of them turns up to each session with a written exercise plan customised to the clients needs and goals. The third surprise was how my improved fitness affected my mental outlook on life. After exercise, when I work, I am now more positive, clear-headed, focussed and, basically — I feel plain happy! Joining Coastal Bodies was one of the best decisions I have taken in my life. It is like training with friends. Whilst many people may say that Coastal Bodies training has changed their life for the better, for me, this is a literal truth!
I first started training with Katy and the Coastal Body crew when recovering from shoulder reconstruction surgery. She created a bespoke training plan to bring strength and full movement back to my shoulder as well as regain some fitness lost during the initial inactive recovery period. Thanks to their careful management and motivation I quickly made a full recovery and was enjoying the environment and training so much I wanted to stay on anyway. Having been an on and off gym goer previously I was always skeptical about the real value of personal training but Coastal Bodies and Katy changed my mind on this one and the semi-private group training offers a great way to follow your own training program in a fun, and sometimes competitive, but good spirited environment!
I have been a client of Coastal Bodies on and off for over five years, on occasion being posted absent as a result of location or business travel but always gravitating back for two simple reasons: the quality of the trainers and the Coastal Bodies community.
Fitness in my mind comes down to commitment and discipline, and with top quality trainers and a community which is always welcoming and strives to get the best out of each and every member it becomes second nature to remain committed and disciplined. Of course you still need to turn up and ‘go for it’ and that is what you see every client doing — pushing each other to hit their own personal goals.
A great environment to train in, I would highly recommend Coastal Bodies as a place to train and achieve your fitness goals.
Brad & Rosie Fensom
We had been with personal trainers previous to Coastal Bodies and felt we weren’t making any progress with our personal goals and there was no long-term ‘plan’ to meet our personal goals and objectives.
We then started with Coastal Bodies two years ago and immediately noted the difference in the professionalism and dedication of the Coastal Bodies team. Our goals and objectives were discussed and a long-term holistic plan of action was put in place — Coastal Bodies has changed our lives! We enjoy the personal training sessions as well as group sessions and are now constantly evolving our personal goals as our bodies and mindset develop.
Thank you to David, Jason and the team at Coastal Bodies!
I have been training at Coastal Bodies for more than six years. The sessions have always been fun and this keeps me motivated. Katy is a pleasure to train with and our sessions have never been boring. Keep up the good work!
Katy is an exceptional trainer — clearly passionate about promoting fitness and bringing out your personal best in each session. Katy’s tougher than the guys! She proactively manages and tailors your training programme from session to session, helping you achieve amazing results quickly. Katy has helped me improve my body tone and fitness level significantly after only a couple of months. I’ve also discovered muscles I had forgotten I have. Katy’s cheerful and warm demeanour provide the perfect cover for how hard she is making you work. Determined to ensure you achieve your goals, she listens and drives you (with a smile!) so that you get the most out of your personally tailored routine. What I appreciate most about Katy, is that near enough isn’t good enough: she monitors your technique closely and discreetly corrects it so that you don’t fall into bad habits. I really look forward to my training sessions each week, despite knowing full well that I’ll be put through my paces! I walk away energised and keen to train harder the next time.
I highly recommend Katy to people of all fitness levels. Once you’ve trained with Katy, you won’t look back.
I consider myself a passionate supporter of Coastal Bodies. It has supported me through the up cycles as well as the down cycles, and it has been about maintaining fitness whatever the weight.
At 56 years old and many failed dieting plans and get fit ideas I knew I was running out of time to get the best out of my life in health and happiness.
That’s when I decided that taking up Coastal Bodies 8 week challenge could be my last attempt to redeem myself.
The professional staff with their friendly advice put me back on track. They formulated my dieting and training around my personal needs, and in the eight weeks I was impressed with my 6.4kg weight loss and my 7.5 cm waste reduction.
Lets face it, Coastal Bodies are only there to offer their support and know how!!! The hard work has to come from yourself. Yes the old “No pain no gain” attitude.
Doing it yourself becomes boring and tedious and you always come up with an excuse that you have something better to do. But the Coastal Bodies team actually made all the training fun and in a team environment I actually looked forward to going. And the dieting is also a painful exercise but with results showing and the team’s encouragement it was easier to get through it.
Now that I’ve achieved my goal I would like to maintain my fitness levels and look forward to Coastal Bodies team to keep me there.
Well done to all.
I started at Coastal Bodies with the 8 week Challenge. I saw great results in that period and it inspired me to continue my fitness journey at the studio. The team and community in this gym is fantastic. I really enjoyed the small group classes. Unfortunately I now have to leave Australia and wish I could take this gym and team back to Ireland with me. Thanks so much to Dave, Eva, Callum and Lisa.
When I decided that I wanted to start the 8 Week Challenge, I wasn’t exactly sure of what to expect. I hadn’t trained for twelve months and was quiet nervous to start.
From the very beginning the staff at Coastal Bodies were fabulous! After the orientation and introduction to the Challenge, I was very excited to start, and be part of it. The thorough explanation of food that can be eaten, to the training options were great, and I could choose exactly how I wanted to train and when.
After 1 month into the Challenge, I was already seeing results. My energy levels had improved, I had dropped a few kilos, and I was sleeping and functioning better.
My trainer, Eva, knew exactly when to up my training and supported me every step of the way. The enthusiasm and praise encouraged me week after week to continue with the Challenge.
It’s now nearly three months after the Challenge, and I am still training with Coastal Bodies, which has now become part of my life.
To all the wonderful Team at Coastal Bodies, and the great people I have met through training, I thank you all for your friendship and support.
I recommend it to anyone who wants to feel healthy and make a change to getting fit and into shape.
